Classes

The Arts Center offers classes for all ages.  The class listings shown here are updated on monthly basis.  Any last minute changes are listed in the blog and visitors should check there often for last minute details and additions.

Preregistration is required for classes, call to register at 701-251-2496 or email btressler@jamestownartscenter.org.

Policies:

  • Individuals registering for classes will not be placed on the permanent list until they have paid, in advance for the class.  Their pre-payment will be refunded if they cancel 48-hours prior to the class.
  • Students in Arts After School may have their advance payment applied to future classes if their class is cancelled due to storm days, instructor illness or any factor not in their control.
  • Groups requesting special classes (eg. Girl Scouts, Head Start, etc.) will pay $50 deposit which will be applied to the overall class fees.  If they cancel the class anytime within 2-weeks of the scheduled class, the deposit will not be refunded.

  • Arts After School
  • 2nd Saturday Series (1st - 6th grades) Fall 2010 Classes will be posted in September.
    • Fee $5 for members $8 for non-members.  This popular series focuses on the principles of design and elements of art while, at the same time, focusing on a important artist. This class occurs every month (during the school year) on the 2nd Saturday, 10:30 - noon.

    • A sample of Winter / Spring 2010 Second Saturday Classes
      • January 9 - Create a snowstorm in a box in the style of artist Jackson Pollock.
      • February 13 - What's black, red, green and yellow all over? Its your Dutch painter, Piet Mondrian-like creation.
      • March 14 - Munch, Munch, Munch....artist Edvard Munch is best known for "The Scream." Students will create 3 different facial expressions from clay while learning about Munch's other work.
      • April 10 - John James Audubon is one of the most famous bird painters in the world.  Students will create nature sketchbooks and practice their drawing skills.
      • May 8 - Grandma Moses's folk art scenes will be studied and the class will focus on creating a scene from thier own lives.

Jewelry – Make jewelry all week long.  Ceramic pendants, copper, wire and bead bangles are just a few of the many jewelry techniques you will be able to experiment with during class. The designer in everyone will be busy creating one-of-a-kind pieces.

Zoofari – Draw, paint & sculpt a zoo. The morning session of this day camp will be at the Arts Center.  After lunch, campers will be bussed to Ave Maria/Heritage Center and will work with residents to create 3-D large zoo animals in the yard behind the facility for all the Ave Marie residents and visitors to enjoy.
